About Tom Wilkinson, Ed.D
I’ve been engaged in various forms of non-traditional and energetic healing for over 20 years. My holistic approach to life stems from my belief in the interconnectedness of all things while the indigenous healing practices of Peru’s medicine women and men form the lineage of my shamanic healing education. After a life as an artist and corporate/college/university educator, I’ve re-awakened to the understanding that I have been called to do this work again.
I am a graduate of the Gateway School of Shamanism under Deborah Wray, former senior faculty for Dr. Alberto Villoldo’s Healing The Light Body School. Additionally, I have completed advanced graduate programs in dream manifestation. In early 2013, I received the Munay-ki nine Empowerment rites based on the initiatory practices of the Q’ero shamans of Peru, and I studied in Peru with Don Theo Parades, Ph.D., a renowned anthropologist and Shaman. I have participated in shamanic ceremonies in numerous sites in Peru including the Temple of Wiracocha, Pisac, Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon, and Machu Picchu. I have participated in shamanic energy healing training with Sandra Ingerman and Alberto Villoldo, and I was engaged in Hank Wesselman’s last teachings as part of his Shamanic Visionary Circle year long program.
I served as the Visiting Shaman for Reiki Journey - Alternative and Holistic Health in Blacksburg, Virginia and assisted teaching second year students in the Gateway School of Shamanism in Charlottesville, Virginia. I will be teaching “Shamanic Healing Wisdom and Practices” as part of the Certified Practitioner for Holistic Health program of Nibana Salt Cave and Wellness in Annapolis, Maryland in the coming year.
I offer shamanic energy healing sessions in person and around the world virtually, as well as, land and home healing and education in shamanic practices.

Shamanic energy medicine is part of humankind’s oldest spiritual and healing practice. It focuses on ancient wisdom of the energetic inter-connectedness of all things, both the seen and un-seen in nature and beyond.
A Shamanic practitioner is “someone who acts as a bridge between the shamanic indigenous world and the modern world and honors the medicine and wisdom of these shamanic people to bring healing and balance.”
Shamans relate to the whole person from an energetic level. Physical, emotional and spiritual issues have an energetic origin, which leaves an imprint on the Energy Field of the individual. These events can be recent, beyond recall, ancestral or even karmic. Shamans track the origins of a symptom to its source through a variety of methods and remove the imprint and its influence on an individual’s health and well being. The individual can then find freedom from old limited thoughts and behavior patterns, connect to their limitless possibilities and begin to write new life stories for themselves.
A shamanic energy healing session with me lasts between 60 to 75 minutes, and each session is different. Sessions may focus on chakra and energy field cleansing and illumination, power loss, soul loss, intrusions, ancestral healing, energetic tears , and imprints in one’s luminous energy field.
People experiencing any of the following may be candidates for shamanic energy work:
- Feelings of sadness, worthlessness and emptiness
- Past emotional traumas
- Patterns of repetitive negative behavior
- Apathy, numbness, lack of vitality, or fatigue
- Emotional or health issues related to your ancestry
- An unhealthy attachment to any individual
- Chronic illness or weak immune system
- An inclination toward addictions and destructive behaviors
- Mood swings or personality shifts
- Feelings of of detachment from your life

Art has always been the creative thread in the tapestry of my life. It connects me to the seen and the unseen, to this world and to others, and to the web of inter-connectedness that is everything. My art is about energy. The energy of the five elements of earth, fire, water, air, and aether. And at the heart of this energy is light.
I see my art as a connective experience between the artist and the viewer. I believe a blank canvas, an open space, or an object to be photographed is an invitation to engage in a creative process that summons the energy and connects the viewer, the artist, the artwork and the energy to something more than just what can be seen.
